As the Hamptons start to cool down for the summer, there’s been nowhere hotter in Montauk than Palm Beach transplant Mary Lou’s. From delicious food to a Page Six-worthy nightlife scene, this chic restaurant brings a Palm Beach aesthetic to the land of Nancy Meyers.

Named for the co-founder’s eccentric grandmother, Mary Lou Curtis, it’s opulent, chic, and likely to become a local fixture for years to come.

Here’s a look inside the stylish hotspot.

It’s an edgy location: on the Bowery, surrounded by funky galleries, the speakeasies and cool kid cafés of the new version of the street and the holdover kitchen supply stores of the old days. But once you enter the week old Maison Nur, you’re very much in its own unique world: an everything everywhere all at once design, florid and fanciful, infused with music, serving refined but boundary-pushing uptown French food tweaked with American touches. As indicated by the fact that he’s put his name on it, it’s the world of hospitality impresario Nur Khan, the culmination of what he’s been aiming for in his 30 year career.

This summer, Montauk welcomes a new chapter in elevated hospitality with the arrival of Mary Lou’s Montauk—a polished yet playful destination conceived with East End ease and a wink of Palm Beach extravagance. Following the brand’s celebrated debut in West Palm Beach, the new outpost lands at 474 West Lake Drive as a compelling fusion of refined dining, inspired interiors, and an atmosphere designed for the culturally attuned.

It’s no secret that Palm Beach loves to party – but up until Thursday night, the question was where? Enter Mary Lou’s: a velvet-lined venue from the minds of New York hospitality gurus Alex Melillo, Topher Grubb and Joe Cervasio that pays homage to a time in Palm Beach that you usually can only get a glimpse of in a Slim Aarons photo.

Palm Beach has always been synonymous with opulence, and the arrival of Mary Lou’s takes the area’s reputation to a dazzling new height. Officially unveiled on January 24, 2025, this cocktail lounge redefines the art of indulgence, weaving vintage glamour with contemporary hedonism in a way only a place named after the iconic Mary Lou Curtis could. The brainchild of hospitality visionaries Alex Melillo, Joe Cervasio, and Topher Grubb, Mary Lou’s is a love letter to the golden days of Palm Beach, wrapped in modern allure.

A contemporary design by Volenec Studio

Designed by locally based Volenec Studio, a contemporary design narrative weaves together elements of Grandma’s Home locations in China with touches of the Big Apple. Layered with vibrant modern Chinese art and playful décor, lines are blurred between old and new, raw and refined—resulting in a casual-yet-sophisticated atmosphere.

Upon entry, guests are met by spacious dining room with high top tables flanked by booth seating along one wall, with a bar on the other. A second dining room, partitioned with traditional patterned screen panels, features curved banquettes for larger parties. Just beyond this area is a semi-private dining room, too.

“The initial inspiration for Butterfly came from the sensual interior design eccentricities of Casa Mollino and the parallels that we saw in Nur Khan’s personal style and taste. However, rather than simply riffing on Casa Mollino, we wanted to personalize the lounge so it felt as if you were stepping into Nur Khan’s private home. At this point Nur reached out to his longtime friends Damien Hirst and Sante D’orazio, both of whom generously contributed significant artworks to the project.”

The Beekman has welcomed a new resident. Open Friday, the Alley Cat Amateur Theatre is Serge Becker’s latest addition to New York’s downtown nightlife scene.

Designed in collaboration with Jason Volenec of Volenec Studio, the lounge taps into the history of the venue’s surrounding location.

“The name and theme were inspired by the history of the location on Theatre Alley, where we will have our main entrance,” said Becker by e-mail, traveling internationally. “The design concept is really picking up cues from the raw mechanical basement space.”
